VIENNA, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chaotic winter conditions in Austria showed few signs of abating in the days ahead, with heavy snow expected until at least the weekend.
The Central Bureau for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) issued a renewed snow warning on Monday, stating that 30 to 80 centimetres of snow are expected in numerous areas of the country from Tuesday to Thursday.
On Sunday alone, two German skier were killed in avalanches in the west state of Vorarlberg, local media said.
The chaotic conditions have already caused numerous problems in the country, with road closures leading to several settlements being effectively cut off from the outside, it said.
Some rail lines, motorways and numerous roads have been closed. The conditions also led to traffic jams and accidents.
In many areas the avalanche warning level is presently at four out of a maximum five, with winter sports enthusiasts urged to only stay in designated skiing areas.
Experts believe that should additional heavy snowfall arrive during the course of the week as anticipated, however, the situation could worsen further still.
