JAKARTA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will hold an annual landmark regional fashion carnival in August to take a theme of "Asia Light," which will highlight traditional cloths of countries taking part in 2018 Asian Games.
The annual event of Jember Fashion Carnival (JFC) is slated for Aug. 7-12 in East Java city of Jember.
Over 2,500 participants in the highly reputable carnival would showcase modified costumes highlighting traditions of Asian nations vying in the 18th Asian Games held in Jakarta and Palembang from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.
JFC President Dynand Fariz said among the Asian traditional costumes defiled in the carnival would be themed Bian Lian from China, Babylonia Empire from Iraq, Kujang from Indonesia, Ottoman Empire from Turkey, Silla from South Korea and Shogun from Japan.
At the launch event on Tuesday, Dynand said the carnival would be featured with International Exhibition, Pets Carnival, International Conference, Kids Carnival, Rhythm Artwear Carnival and the Wonderful Archipelago Carnival Indonesia.
"The theme used in the upcoming JFC, Asia Light, has a strong association with Asiad theme of 'Energy of Asia.' The JFC will become an effective event to further promote the largest Asian sports event," he said.
The carnival, the 17th edition this year, has earned recognition in the category of Best National Costumes in international pageant events.
"All things showcased in the carnival have strong originality. The fashion aspect is also very strong in national costume," the minister said.
The 18th Asiad will be the second after 1962 for Indonesia to host the sports event. Some 11,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions are expected to take part in the upcoming Asiad.
